Three ideas behind every reading

  1. The sidereal zodiac

Vedic astrology measures the signs against the fixed stars. Because the Earth slowly wobbles, that zodiac now sits about 24° behind the Western one, which is why your Vedic sign is often the one before your Western sign. The gap is called the ayanamsa; this site uses Lahiri’s, the one most Indian astrologers use.

  2. Your moon sign

In India your rashi usually means your moon sign: the sign the Moon was in when you were born, because the Moon stands for the mind. Daily horoscopes, Sade Sati and kundli matching are all read from it, and the Moon’s nakshatra sets your dashas.

  3. Your own chart

A kundli maps the sky at your birth: the lagna rising in the east, the twelve houses counted from it, and where each graha sits. Your rashi is one line of it. A full reading looks at all of it, along with the dashas running now.

Each rashi has its own page: a profile of the sign, its ruling graha, element and nakshatras, and today’s horoscope for everyone born with the Moon there. Under each name: its element and ruling graha.
