What this quick check looks at
Vedic matching compares two charts across eight kootas worth 36 points in all. This quick check uses two of them. Bhakoot, worth 7 points, looks at how far apart the two moon signs are. Graha maitri, worth 5, looks at whether the planets that rule the two signs are friends. Together they give a score out of 12.

The other six kootas are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi. Four of them come from your nakshatras, including Nadi, the most heavily weighted at 8 points. For the full 36-point guna milan, use the free kundli matching tool.
Before a marriage, astrologers read both charts in full, so a score is a starting point, not a verdict on a relationship. A matching consultation covers all of it.
Questions
About the quick check
What is Bhakoot dosha?
When the two moon signs are 2nd and 12th, 5th and 9th, or 6th and 8th from each other, Bhakoot scores 0 of 7, and this is called Bhakoot dosha. Many astrologers treat it as cancelled when both signs have the same lord or the two lords are friends, which the calculator points out.
Can we use this instead of kundli matching?
No. It covers 12 of the 36 points and none of the kootas that come from your nakshatras. Use it as a first look, then check the full guna milan, and for a marriage have both charts read in full.
What if we don’t know our birth times?
The Moon stays in a sign for about two and a half days, so the date and place are usually enough. If the Moon changed sign on the day one of you was born, the calculator gives the time it changed. If you already know your moon signs, choose them directly.
